It was a night. A night of celebration and fear. A night of horror and laughs. A “spooky” night. Parents taking their oh so “scary” kids to houses, taking candy, calling it a night. But not all would be safe. For 5 fates will be sealed tonight.

Poor souls. All between 14-15. Wearing different costumes. But maybe, their death will be what they represent. The first one was in a cloak. Deathly mask full of blood and fear. Underneath, a kind kid. “I will be the scariest of them all!” he said. Death in the night was watching.

Another one. Dressed as a witch. With green makeup and “scary” stitches. A broom in hand. On this haunting night, “I just wanna be purple!” she said. But who knows if such potions could get her out of danger.

The 3rd, a child with preferences. Dressed as a knight. Silver lining won’t make the cut. He had a sword in hand. Bright armor too. “I like being brave,” he said. If only it lasts.

The 4th, just an average girl. Dressed as a pink pony. Funny for her last night. “I love ‘My Little Pony!’” she said. There is a reason why such creatures don’t exist.

The final, a sun princess. Dressed gorgeous. “It shows my name!” she said. But brightness inevitably fades.

Such costumes as they went together. Hand in hand. 5 different houses. All said “Free candy if you finish this maze.” All were excited.

“Let’s separate and meet back!” the cloaked one said. They all agreed. The house that looked like a castle, the knight went in. The one that looked like an ocean, the princess went in. The house that looked like a haunted maze, the cloaked death went in. The unicorn castle, the pony. The house of spiders, the witch. Little did they know, they had walked into the wrong houses.

Death, scythe in hand, walked around the halls. Weirded out. Dark. Suspicious blood on the floor. It didn’t smell fake. But he refused to believe it. “Must be scented,” he said. He kept walking around. Looking for clues. Something. Anything. Suddenly, he took the wrong step.

SLICE.
As queens shout at their subjects, OFF WITH HIS HEAD.

1 down. 4 to go.

Down the road, the unicorn house seemed magical. The sweet pink pony was skipping through. Seeing fake people with masks, all saying to walk more. All fake. All lies. But what did she know? She saw a small pond, full of unicorn apples with a key at the bottom. “Take the key by bobbing your head down!” the sign said. The pink pony laughed. It would be easy, she thought. She put her head in the water, about to bite the key. Suddenly,

CLAMP.
Metal claws were on her neck. Forcing her to stay underwater. She couldn’t lift up. Could not fight. She screamed underwater. Drowning. Begging for help. Absorbing the salty water. The masked people suddenly forgot that somebody had entered. Eventually, she lost her color and drowned. Pink? Now RED.

I guess this pony lost her mark.

2 Down. 3 remain.

The princess, oh so gorgeous, walked further in the ocean building. Bored out of her mind. “Man. I’m starting to think there was never any CANDY to begin with. I wonder how Lucas is doing at that haunted house. Bet Candy is having the time of her life at that pony place.” She eventually saw a candle. And a bottle of water. “Take out the fire” that sign said. “This is the challenge? Man. We are gonna be rich with candy after this.” she poured out the candle. Smirking. Suddenly, FIRE.

All around her. Crackling fire. She ran out of water. She screamed. The exit was sealed. She screamed out more. Fires consuming the oxygen. The building collapsed, with her in it. For a fire princess, she couldn’t handle the QUEEN of flame. Her body? Later lost to ash.

3 down. 2 remain.

The knight in shining armor. Sword in hand, long hair, walking down a strange path. In one hall, knights in armor. The other? Hallway of flames. “What the WHAT is with these halls. Looked smaller outside. Hope the gang is A-Okay. Maybe I’ll take some more gumballs for Candy. Would be nice.” As he walked down the strange halls, a bat jumpscared him. He swatted it away. “HOLY- WHY?!” He brushed it off. But suddenly, not all the armors were fake.

STAB.

All swords can break. Along with courage. His corpse fell. Stabbed right through. The armor walked back to his spot. Washing his sword. The bats nearby…?

They ate his corpse.

4 down. 1 remains…

The witch in the spider house, she broke the rules. She found a hidden exit door. “Woah. A path. This is gonna be easy as pie. Ooooh. What if they have pie!?” She walked down a forested road. Somehow, the pitch black path seemed to be getting even darker. She saw a cavern. “What the heck is this? Home alone?” She headed inside. To see one of her own. With CORPSES in her pot as she brewed. Her hat dropped. Seeing a victim list. Her’s being the last… Allisandra. “What… WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO THEM?!” The witch laughed. “Oh poor girl. Did you think there was gonna be candy at the end? I was after you all, FOOLISH CHILD.”

Allisandra ran. Ran for her life. Screaming for help. But the witch was faster. And stabbed her in the head. Ending her life. Adding her to a stew. Nobody knows what happened. Legends say she ate them in stew. Or a brew. But nobody found their bodies… EVER.

Hear me children, hear me now. To avoid such a fate, wear what fate you represent. If you dress as Satan, you might see him sooner than later. Be wary of what is safe and what is not. And if you choose not to avoid such a painful fate, You might hear a…
