Looking Forward into Spring Semester at BHSA

“In Transit” Musical

The musical theater department’s production of “In Transit” will take place in the school auditorium from February 4th to February 7th. “In Transit” is a one act, acapella musical that “explores the unique stories and powerful voices of New York City” (Tori Mims, 11th grade). Tickets are currently on sale and can be found on the Brooklyn High School of the Arts website.

Love is Love Valentines Event

The National Honor Society will be selling flowergrams for its annual “Love is Love” Valentines Day event before school from February 2nd to February 10th. Stop by the tables in the entrance between 8:00 and 8:30 to purchase and write a card. Flowers and cards will be distributed during the school day on February 13th, and all proceeds will be donated to supporting a youth organization.

Hamlet

Brooklyn Arts’ production of Shakespeare’s Hamlet will be coming to the Blackbox Theater on March 23rd and 24th. Auditions were open to the entire school, bringing together cast members from multiple grades and majors. This condensed version of the classic play trims the original five-hour runtime while still delivering all of its iconic action, drama, and even swordfights.

Junior Project Show

“Junior Projects” are small group dances choreographed and performed by junior dance majors. Each year’s Junior Projects are theme-based, and this year’s theme is “art inspired by art”. The Junior Project performance will take place on May 5th in the auditorium, and projects will be judged to determine which ones will be featured in the Spring Dance Concert.

Spring Music Concert

The Spring Music Concerts will be held in the auditorium on the nights of May 20th and May 21st. These concerts will showcase several performances from both vocal majors and instrumental majors of all grades. This spring, our vocal and instrumental majors will also be attending the annual New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Festival.

Spring Art Show

The Spring Art Show at Brooklyn High School of the Arts will take place on the night of June 3rd. This event highlights the Visual Art Department, with student artwork lining the halls of both the first and second floor. The exhibit will include a diverse range of work from photography, to book arts, to painting and drawing, to art history, so be sure to check it out!

Spring Dance Concert Series

Our annual Brooklyn High School of the Arts Spring Dance Concert Series will be held at the Theater at City Tech on June 5th and 6th. Performances will showcase works by Ms. Smith and Mr. Varvaro, as well as various guest choreographers. The senior/freshman show will additionally feature self choreographed solos by select seniors, and the sophomore/junior show will feature four “Junior Projects”.
