Pre-Show Interviews With the Cast of In Transit

From February 4th through 7th at BHSA, students across multiple majors will be putting on the a cappella musical, In Transit. The show follows the lives of 5 New Yorkers trying to navigate their way through life, love, and career challenges, all set around the NYC subway system. The cast and crew  have been working tirelessly since September to make sure the production is amazing! I asked a few questions, and members of the cast graciously answered. Here’s a preview of what we’ll get to witness at In Transit, and some behind-the-scenes of the process:

How would you describe In Transit in one word?

Transformative, says Olivia Potorti, who plays Jane.

What has been the most difficult part of the process?

Ivelisse Santana, who plays the wedding planner, says the most difficult part of the process has been staying in sync with everyone since the show is completely a cappella. Without music to rely on, listening closely and focusing on timing is very important.

How do you balance your academics with the musical?

Rachael Wade, who plays Sophia, says she makes sure her homework and studying are her first priority when she gets home; after that she spends time rehearsing.

Who do you think has the best costume?

There is a very popular consensus that Xzayla Wilson, who plays Althea, has the best costume – from what I’ve heard, we’re all in for a surprise involving a certain subway card that has recently been discontinued!

Why should people see the show?

Mckenzie Thomas, the stage manager, says people should see this musical because it is different. This was Broadway’s first a cappella musical, and it is one act. Additionally, some of these characters’ experiences are  very relatable to life today.

With this preview, I hope you’re all gearing up to support the cast and crew of In Transit!
